Yaplet is only a week old, so the development of the beta is driven entirely by
user feedback. If you ask for a feature, we'll program it in for you. (If it's possible.) If you drop by the chat on
the front page, you can probably catch us in person. (Sometimes, we can add the requested feature in just a couple minutes.)
Here's a list of what's in store for yaplet so far:
-
Notifications
Optional audio notification (off by default) and titlebar flashing when a new message arrives.
-
Moderator control
Site owners will be able to moderate the chats linked to their sites.
-
Dynamic viewer count badge
A dynamic badge that tells you how many people are currently viewing your page and available to talk.
-
Command-line control
Keyboard shortcuts plus all your favorite IRC commands--/me, /nick, ...
-
Unicode support
We want to make sure yaplet is usable all over the world.
-
Custom site support
Yaplet works on any site, but we're adding special handling to improve the experience on popular sites.
We've already got some custom support for facebook.com and fark.com.
-
Better private messaging
We're not satisfied with the usability of the current interface. We want to make it better. Let us know if you have suggestions.
-
More browser support
We'd like to add Opera to our list of supported browsers. (Better IE6 support is also in the works.)
-
Better chat-while-you-browse
The recently added pop-up chat mode is our first attempt at having yaplet follow you while you browse.
-
CSS-based themability
Once the interface is less in flux, we'll offer site operators the ability to supply yaplet with a .css file from their site.
-
Faster service
We're obssessed with speed. We're always tweaking the networking code and buying more servers to make it even faster.
